More Indian tourists expected with renewed air pact

More visits are expected from India to Malaysia and vice versa with the renewal of the Air Service Agreement between the two countries.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who acccompanied the Prime Minister on his just-concluded official visit to India, said the new agreement increased the number of seats for airlines of each country from 20,000 to 22,000 a week.
"The Air Service Agreement was signed in 1967. This time we signed again to increase the number of seats for airlines from Malaysia to India and vice versa.
"It is a small breakthrough but it will boost the tourism industry," he told reporters after launching the Blossom Arts Festival Malaysia 2017 at Wisma MCA here today.
The visit of Datuk Seri Najib Razak saw several bilateral agreements signed which secured projects and investments worth US$36bil (RM159.26bil).

According to Malaysian Chinese Cultural and Arts Consultative Council chairman Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, this year's blossom arts festival, to be held througout August at Wisma MCA, will be a bigger convergence of artists, performers and craftsmen from all cultural backgrounds and genres.
