IDRIS JALA: The main economic indicator underlines the country's strong fundamentals.
Pemandu Chief Executive Officer and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala dismissed negative allegations towards the country’s economy as he is confident that Malaysia will overcome them based on current economic indicator.
According to Idris, he is positive that the government can weather the global uncertainties currently affecting the economy, based on the country's gross domestic product (GDP) and private investment growth.
“The main economic indicator underlines the country’s strong fundamentals. For the first half, the GDP was at 5.3% and is expected to grow by between 4.5% to 5.5% by year-end,” said Idris in his brief about Malaysia’s economic stand at Sasana Kijang, here today.
Among the issues addressed by Idris included the prejudice that Malaysia will not achieve its high-income status by 2020 because of the depreciation of the ringgit.
Idris also quashed other allegations such as the 1MDB issue and allegation that Malaysia is highly dependent on its oil export revenue.
